When Nero burned Rome so that he can write a poem about fire, Petronus and Seneca-two of Rome’s greatest minds- were in attendance. Some years later, Caligula appointed his horse to the Senate and found him (the horse) a human wife, as the whole Roman elite and mighty military stood and watched.
Both these Roman Emperors were removed forcefully by the people but not before a large number of people had lost their lives to this madness. Our own version, Yuhi Mazimpaka, is believed to have jumped from the roof of house after mistaking a rock down below for a swimming pool. I have always asserted that the man was pushed, and since there are no witnesses to contradict my assertions, I rest my case. “Gutekinika byatangiye kera.”(Falsifying facts started long time ago) Crazy Roman Emperors and our Rwandan crazy monarch lived in different times.
We can blame ignorance and superstition. However, when a sociopath with a god complex stands in front highly educated men in 2014, and ghoulishly taunts the families of his most recent victims from the pulpit, in a house of prayer to thundering applause; it makes me wonder what is in the water in our beloved Rwanda. But this is not even the scariest part of this. The fact that a former US President, a former British Prime Minister, and a well-renown American Evangelist stand next to the same insane character and start railing against freedom of speech and human rights, it almost makes me lose faith in humanity.
As a people, it is our duty to put an end to this madness. Please, please, please somebody in Kigali!!! There is rabid dog on the loose, lock him up and throw away the keys and let nature take its course, or put him down. The country has enough veterinarians to do this safely and quietly, or else he is going to keep biting you and turn the whole country into murderous werewolves. Well, let’s just hope it’s my imagination.
