PRESS RELEASE N° 003/2020
The Democratic Liberation Forces of Rwanda (FDLR) condemn the incursions of the Rwandan Defense Forces in NORTH and SOUTH KIVU which endanger the Rwandan refugees and the Congolese populations in this region of the DRC.
At a time when the whole world is calling for the containment of everyone in order to stop the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic which is wreaking havoc in all countries, the Rwandan Defense Forces (RDF), in collusion and collaboration with some elements of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of CONGO (FARDC), continue to carry out attacks that threaten the lives of hundreds of thousands of Rwandan refugees as well as Congolese civilian populations in KIVU, eastern region of the Democratic Republic of CONGO (DRC).
Indeed, for 2 weeks, the RDF have carried out incursions in the eastern region of the DRC, especially in the territory of RUTCHURU. Thus, from April 13, 2020, RDF units suspected of knowingly carrying COVID-19 left their KAHUNGA regrouping base not far from the city of KIWANJA, and headed towards MABENGA, KASALI and KAZAROHO, destroying on their path the villages which had hitherto been a haven of peace for the Rwandan Hutu refugees in this region.
At the same time, the indigenous Congolese population and the Rwandan refugees from KAZAROHO, TONGO district, were chased from their homes and property, their houses were looted and then burned to the point that these unfortunate people are in disarray, left to their own fate and without assistance from the local authorities.
In these macabre operations, the RDF benefited from the support and complicity of elements of the FARDC, in particular General Innocent GAHIZI in charge of intelligence and operations in NORD-KIVU and Colonel RUSIMBI based in KAHUNGA near KIWANJA.
The FDLR denounces the false propaganda of the enemy which goes with these operations and which is aimed only at distracting the local, regional and international community.
The FDLR condemns with the last energy these worthless and inhuman acts committed against Rwandan refugees and against poor and defenseless civilian populations, and calls on the international community to condemn them and demand their immediate and final end.
The FDLR calls on all regional and international humanitarian organizations to rescue without delay these Rwandan refugees and innocent Congolese populations who are threatened with extermination by all evils: Rwandan rifle bullets, hunger and diseases including the COVID-19 pandemic.
